Aside from its well-known role as a natural lip balm and the best treatment for sore throats, honey is also known to treat, repair and moisturize the skin. There were so many recipes out there for natural remedies with honey, and we picked the three most popular ones to try on our faces.
1. Raw honey
We may not have done this right because most recommend unfiltered, raw honey, which still contains pollen grains that are beneficial for the skin. We tried the Multi-floral & clover honey from Trader Joe’s because that was the best and closest thing I could find at the moment. Raw honey alone is supposed to clean your skin without stripping it of the natural oils, moisturize the skin and treat wounds. Putting it on our faces wasn’t easy. Verdict? It was very sticky, a little gross, smelled a little weird and honestly not sure if our skin liked it.
2. Honey with cinnamon
We made this mask with about 2-3 tablespoons of honey and one tablespoon of ground cinnamon. Cinnamon is apparently good for eczema and cell turnover – and this combination has been widely used to treat acne. This combination was our favorite because it smelled good, was an easier spread and felt some sort of tingling and cooler sensation.
3. Honey with lemon
Again, we made this with a few tablespoons of honey and the lemon juice from half a lemon. The alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) in lemon allegedly helps remove dead skin cells and clear pores. This mask smelled odd. It must have been the lemon. But it was thinner, felt less sticky and definitely felt more like it was doing something compared to raw honey.
Obviously, our skin didn’t react right away to putting these masks on for 3-5 minutes in one day. We imagine trying it out regularly for a longer period of time will produce more results. How weird are your shower habits? Shampoo first or body wash first? Take our quiz and find out! ADVERTISEMENT
